Abstract
We have experienced 2 cases of "coarctation of aorta" at the department of chest surgery in the National Medical Center, in 1965.
These two cases were proved by clinical finding and X-ray examinations including the aortographies, pre-operatively.
The first case was 19 year old high school boy and the second one was also 17 year old b.
They were operated upon through the left thoracotomies. And a resectional surgery was performed in both cases successfully.
In the first case, a Teflon graft was applied between the distal and proximal ends of the aorta, where the involved part was resected out.
In the second one, the two-ends were approximated and end-to-end anastomosis was performed directly without any application of a graft, after the resectional surgery was carried out.
In our two cases, the post-operative results were excellent, without and evidence of major complications. In the two cases, satisfactory relief of the persisting hypertension was obtained post-operatively.
The types of the Coarctation were post-ductal forms in both cases. Brief review of the literatures was tried concerning the "coarctation".
